Building a House Where Love Can Grow
A Place for Friends on a Journey with God
Taking a journey with God is quite the statement to make. Can we really find God? Maybe God finds us! It can be hard to know where to start. Friends can help. Sometimes walking with other people on the journey of faith can help us find our own path. We’re trying to create place to help us connect with God and with each other. We’re trying to create worship that is honest, relevant and real. You’re invited to walk with us.
A New Space
It started with a basement that was kind of old and a little grungy. The heat didn’t work very well. The carpet was coming up. The acoustics were so dull, you could hardly sing to God. Ugh!
Today … the new space is light and airy with more windows, warm colors and natural finishes like stone and wood. We lifted the ceiling by 3 feet to make the space feel spacious and left the rafters in place for fun. The stage has a faux wood floor and the steps are lined with stone. We have high and low café tables and chairs ready to fill the worship space and a new window into the coffee bar set off with artistic design of small wood pieces. Everything in this new space says sit, relax, and listen for God.
The Worship
We’re still creating the atmosphere for our time to gather together each week for expressing thankfulness to God, celebrating the blessings we have experienced, and learning more about living life together. We know …
- The music will be lively and contemporary, with a willingness to feature some of the classics.
- The atmosphere will be casual, relaxed, hopeful, and non-judgmental.
- Everyone (and we mean everyone) will be welcome!
- We will try to ask hard questions and ponder them together.
- We will encourage friendship.
- We hope to enable friendship with God.
- There will be coffee! … and tea, snacks, cookies, etc.
Worship: Gather together to celebrate, to give thanks, to honor, to express awe and reverence for the One who created us, to seek help for our difficulties and trials.
The Children’s Corner
We’ve spent a lot of time creating a space for children. Children will be welcome to sit with their families for the early part of worship. We’ll have a children’s message for young ones after the first few songs. After that, they will be invited to visit the children’s corner for quiet exploring and activities. The children’s corner (with bright-colored, round lights) is in the worship space so you can see your children. Their space has a special tile floor that mimics a map of Israel, with the River Jordan on it. The spot on the river where Jesus was baptized is marked with a purple tile. Ask your child if she or he can find it!
